Meat

Meat. Meat is a sensitive subject. It tastes great but comes with such great concequences. Take the environment for example, your health, the animals health. The list goes in and on and is quite scary. I went on an adventure of vegetarian/began about a year ago in an effort to loose wright and become more healthy. A about a month ago I started introducing meat back into my diet because I felt that I was not getting enough protines. Well in that short month I have gained nearly 5 pounds and the game is over. I have proven to myself once and for all meat is not healthy and makes people fat. That's all I have for today. I'm going back to a meat free life. May you do the same, for your healths sake.

Posted via LiveJournal.app.

Waow!

Been awhile! I've done a few rides, but haven't had time to upload them. Luckily my garmin edge 305 keeps track up up to 100 rides (i think), so i've got all the information ready to go! I started a new job with Verizon Wireless, so i've been pretty busy. I'm working 10-7 right now, which leaves some time at night to do a ride. After 5 weeks, i'll be 12-9, which will probably leave not much time in the evening to go riding, so i might have to cut back to weekends, and getting a trainer tire and rim. We'll see! So here are the past 4 rides, oldest first. There is a speed record in here, 40.4 MPH, WHOA!

6/8/08
Distance: 15.65mi
Total Time: 1:15:41
Avg Pace: 4:50/mi
Avg Spd: 12.4mph
Max Spd: 23.1mph
Calories: 1056
Avg HR: 149bpm
Max HR: 183bpm
Avg Cadence: 81rpm

6/15/08
Distance: 10.31mi
Total Time: 52:31
Avg Pace: 5:06/mi
Avg Spd: 11.7mph
Max Spd: 40.4mph
Calories: 714
Avg HR: 152bpm
Max HR: 197bpm
Avg Cadence: 81rpm

6/16/08
Distance: 14.45mi
Total Time: 1:01:14
Avg Pace: 4:14/mi
Avg Spd: 14.2mph
Max Spd: 22mph
Calories: 993
Avg HR: 154bpm
Max HR: 180bpm
Avg Cadence: 86rpm

6/17/08
Distance: 8.28mi
Total Time: 37:50
Avg Pace: 4:34/mi
Avg Spd: 13.1mph
Max Spd: 26.6mph
Calories: 563
Avg HR: 164bpm
Max HR: 196bpm
Avg Cadence: 84rpm

Total ODO: 304.59mi

Distance Achievement Unlocked!

Hit the 20 mile mark today. Quite a feeling. We took off from antelope park, headed clear to the end of that trail, back tracked to the blues trail (thats what i call it, as blues bike shop is on there, who knows what its really called), had them do a quick look at my bike, then we took back to antelope park. Then from there we took off onto the holmes lake trail. Also hit a speed record today, lots of records! It was also pretty damn hot today, about 90 degrees and sunny when we were out, yeesh! Good way to start off June!

Stats:
Distance: 20.04mi
Total Time: 1:35:51
Pause Time: 00:18:35
Avg Pace: 04:47/mi
Avg Spd: 12.5mph
Max Spd: 32.5mph
Calories: 1385
Avg HR: 158bpm
Max HR: 198bpm
Avg Cadence: 81rpm
Odo: 255.99

http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=60108.jpg

Trainer Ride

Tonight i road the trainer, was too cold to go out. Some kids, whos parents are probably drug dealers or something, came up to the garage door and just stared and pointed at me. If i had something to throw at them, i would have. Fucking bastards. My top speed is alittle screwed i think. The monitor does a decent job, but i'm not sure what the super high spike was...

Stats
Total Distance: 7.69mi
Total Ride Time: 30:10
Avg Pace: 3:55/mi
Avg Spd: 15.4mph
Max Spd: 69.1mph
Calories: 544
Avg HR: 141bpm
Max HR: 171bpm
Avg Cadence: 74rpm
Odo: 222.06

Went on a ride today with matt, my mom and her boyfriend steven. They road SO SLLLLOOW. Oh jeez i thought i was going to die. Anyway, i bought a new bike pump for tires, some new socks, a pair of bike shorts and a new larger camelback.

I think i sun burned my arms too :(

Stats
Distance: 16.17mi
Ride Time: 1:40:39
Pause Time: 0:28:43
Avg Pace: 6.13/mi
Avg Spd: 9.6 MPH (told you)
Max Spd: 26.5 MPH
Calories: 1212
Avg HR: 135 BPM
Max HR: 197 BPM
Avg Cadence: 73 RPM
Odo: 214.37

http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=52608.jpg

Speed Record!

Wow todays ride was tough! It was windy as hell, and we tried out the highland trail today. There are upwards of 7 or 8% grades all over the place, my numbers don't show it, but man i was sweating and working my ass off.

Also! I got a new speed record for me, 31.7 mph. I was booking it, was doing about 103 RPM in my lowest gear, what fun!

Stats;
Total Distance: 9.09 mi
Ride Time: 50:52
Pause Time: 15:23
Avg Pace: 5:35/mi
Avg Spd: 10.7 mph
Max Spd: 31.7 mph
Calories: 573 (What?!)
Avg HR: 145 BPM
Max HR: 191 BPM
Avg Cadence: 74 RPM
ODO: 198.20

http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=52508gps.jpg

WOW! Wind!

Got my cadence sensor today, so that will be another stat added to these posts. Cadence is basically RPM for my legs. I guess 70 to 100 is "optimal" 100 rpm is friken fast! I was averaging about 78, which seems to be a pretty brisk pace. But it was so windy today, our speed suffered, we were in it going out, then it shifted, and we were in it coming back! Its supposed to storm coming up here, but we got out while it was still dry, all in all a pretty good run.

Stats
Distance: 13.01mi
Ride Time: 1:15:17
Pause Time: 00:10:17
Avg Pace: 5:47/mi
Avg Spd: 10.4 mph
Max Spd: 19.5 mph
Calories: 819
Avg HR: 151 bpm
Max HR: 191 bpm
Avg Cadence: 78 rpm
Odo: 189.11

http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=52408stat.jpg
http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=52408gps.jpg

It was an ok day today. Left work early to make up for all the time that i been spending there after hours. Went to school, then went for a ride.
Crappy Day

Ugh. Livejournal just erased everything that i typed. >.<
http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=52008.jpg
Anyway, today was a pretty crappy day. My legs were achy all day due to the hard ride yesterday, and i had to be at work until 7pm. Sucked. But i did get a ride in tonight, not too bad on the mileage for a weeknight, but wasn't fast or hard. Just didn't have it in my legs. I wanted to make it out to the 84th track, but 3/4th of the way there i ran out of fuel and turned around. oh well, maybe this weekend.

Stats:
Distance: 9.52mi
Total Time: 47:59 ride time 3:05 pause time (whoa, went pretty much the whole time)
Pace: 5:02/mi
Avg Spd: 11.9
Max Spd: 18.0 mph
Avg HR: 150bpm
Max HR: 167bpm
Calories: 581 :(

Other news, just got an email from amazon saying my speed/cadence sensor shipped, weee!

http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=52008.jpg
http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=52008gps.jpg
The last one shows my route tracked by the gps, neat!

Went on a ride with my friend Nate tonight. I didn't realize he was a rider, i guess he runs too. He is a lot more advanced of a rider than me, but i'm working on it. We started out a little late tonight, but got in a pretty good ride. He showed me this awesome mountain bike track, was quite fun. 2 laps on this thing and i was shot.

Stats
Miles: 12.54
Time: Ride Time 1:07:03 Pause Time 10:17
Avg Pace: 5:20/mi
Avg Speed: 11.2 mph
Max Speed: 20.1 mph
Calories: 777
Avg HR: 152
Max HR: 190

http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=51908.jpg

Heres what the GPS saw on the track!
http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=mtbiketrack51908.jpg

Went on a ride today with Laura. She still isn't capable of keeping up with me, so it was a little slower than i'd like. She is going to start riding more during the week, so that when we step it up on the weekends she'll be ok.

I got a new cycling computer, a garmin 305 edge. Its got basically everything anyone could want. Its GPS enabled, does cadance and heart rate monitoring, all sorts of neat stuff. But it also lets me hook up to my computer and download my ride data and displays it all nice, so i'm going to start taking screen shots of that and putting them up here too, as well as the text info.
http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=view&current=51808.jpg
Stats:
Time: 1:44:00 Ride time, 0:25:40 pause time
Avg Spd: 11.5
Max Spd: 22.1
AVG HR: 140
Max HR: 186
Miles: 20.13
Calories: 1367
Odo: 141.13

Test Day

SO yea i had a test today, Microsoft Server 2003, i probably C+'d it. Ah well. I did go riding today!

Stats:
Miles - 7
Time - 36 Minutes
AVG Spd - 13 MPH
Max Spd - 18 MPH
Calories - 739
Max HR - 192
AVG HR - 160 ( My goal, yay!)

So that'll do it for today. Tomorrow probably won't be a riding day, maybe on the trainer though. I have to go to lab assist at 530 and won't get done until 8. If i can't get riding by 730 on a weeknight, i think its too late to start. Maybe the weekends, though i usually get out during the day.

Ok toodles!

Trainer Day

Just winding the day down now with my sugar free caffeine free mt dew, and my fat free low sodium pop corn. Today was a long day, work, then class, then homework, then cycling, yeesh.

I didn't go for a ride today, it was too late, and was dark and kinda cold, so i rode the trainer. The trainer basically makes my bike stationary in my garage.

Heres todays stats:
Miles: No mile reading today
Time: 30 Min
AVG heart rate: 150
MAX heart rate: 168
Calories Burned: 565

Tomorrow is work, then i have a test and a quiz. Supposed to be pretty nice tomorrow, hopefully i'll be able to get out for a ride tomorrow evening.

Cycling Log

Hello all! (less than all i suppose).

I've decided that i'm going to make this my cycling log. I just took up cycling a few weeks ago, and i'm LOVING it.

I should preface with a little back story. I'm Rob, 22, live in Nebraska, work at a small computer service shop, go to school at SCC for computers, and you'll pick up more as we go, (read the many years of back story for more info, though take all that lightly, i was young and quite immature back then).

Anyhow, here is my gear. Its a green Gary Fisher Piranha. See pics here. http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w158/gigatigga/?action=tags&current=New%20Bike

So today was a short ride, but fast. I don't have a lot of time during the week because of school, but i try to get out when i can.

Here are todays stats:
Weight - 218
Time - 35 Minutes
AVG Heart Rate - 169
Max Heart Rate - 189
Avg MPH - 15
Max MPH - 24
Miles - 6
Cals Burned - 780

I hope to keep track of this info and track my progress. I've put over 90 miles on the bike so far, hope to get over a thousand before a year. Thats only about 100 miles a month, or 25 a week. Should be do able.

Welp that'll do it for todays post, see ya next time.

I never read internet articles, but i actually read this entire thing. Pretty interesting...

__________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hack My Son's Computer, Please
05.23.07 | 2:00 AM

Can an elderly father give police permission to search a password-protected computer kept in his adult son's bedroom, without probable cause or a warrant? In April, a three judge panel of the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals said yes.

This week, the son's attorney, Melissa Harrison, an assistant federal public defender in Kansas City, will ask the court to reconsider the panel's ruling. At stake is whether law enforcement will have any responsibility to respect passwords and other expressions of user privacy when searching devices which contain the most sensitive kinds of private information.

In United States v. Andrus (.pdf), agents suspected that the defendant was accessing websites containing child pornography, but after eight months of investigation still did not have sufficient probable cause to get a search warrant. Instead, they decided to drop by the defendant's house for an impromptu conversation.

The suspect was not at home. However, his 91-year-old father answered the door in his pajamas, invited the agents in, and eventually gave them permission to enter his son's bedroom and search the hard drive on his son's password-protected computer. The agents used EnCase to perform the search, a common forensic tool programmed to ignore Windows logon passwords. Agents found child pornography on the computer.

Without a judge's permission, the search depended on the father's authority to allow police access to his son's computer. On this point, the fact that the son locked his parents out of the computer with a password is critical.

The Fourth Amendment generally prohibits warrantless searches of an individual's home or possessions. There is an exception to the warrant requirement when someone consents to the search. Consent can be given by the person under investigation, or by a third party with control over or mutual access to the property being searched. Because the Fourth Amendment only prohibits "unreasonable searches and seizures," permission given by a third party who lacks the authority to consent will nevertheless legitimize a warrantless search if the consenter has "apparent authority," meaning that the police reasonably believed that the person had actual authority to control or use the property.

Under existing case law, only people with a key to a locked closet have apparent authority to consent to a search of that closet. Similarly, only people with the password to a locked computer have apparent authority to consent to a search of that device. In Andrus, the father did not have the password (or know how to use the computer) but the police say they did not have any reason to suspect this because they did not ask and did not turn the computer on. Then, they used forensic software that automatically bypassed any installed password.

The majority held that the police officers not only weren't obliged to ask whether the father used the computer, they had no obligation to check for a password before performing their forensic search. In dissent, Judge Monroe G. McKay criticized the agents' intentional blindness to the existence of password protection, when physical or digital locks are such a fundamental part of ascertaining whether a consenting person has actual or apparent authority to permit a police search. "(T)he unconstrained ability of law enforcement to use forensic software such at the EnCase program to bypass password protection without first determining whether such passwords have been enabled ... dangerously sidestep(s) the Fourth Amendment."

If the 10th Circuit rehears the case, it will have the opportunity to recalculate the balance between individuals' efforts to protect computer privacy and security, and law enforcement efforts to make searches based on mere hunches without judicial supervision.

In this case, the defendant could not have done much more to keep his computer private, other than tape a piece of paper to the monitor like a teenager might post on the door to his room (Do Not Enter Or Else!!). On the other hand, the officers could have simply asked the father whether he had permission to access his son's computer, switched the computer on to see if there was a password prompt, or used a forensic program that notifies investigators when a machine is password protected. It's as if the police entered the defendant's room with x-ray specs on and searched his bureau, closet and footlocker without needing to even ask his father whether these things were private or shared.

The Supreme Court expressly disavowed this technique in Kyllo v. United States, where it held that "obtaining by sense-enhancing technology any information regarding the interior of the home that could not otherwise have been obtained without physical 'intrusion into a constitutionally protected area,' constitutes a search -- at least where ... the technology in question is not in general public use."

If courts are going to treat computers as containers, and if owners must lock containers in order to keep them private from warrantless searches, then police should be required to look for those locks. Password protected computers and locked containers are an inexact analogy, but if that is how courts are going to do it, then its inappropriate to diminish protections for computers simply because law enforcement chooses to use software that turns a blind eye to owners' passwords.
